Bryan Finneran received his Bachelor of Science degree in Hydrology (Law and Society minor) from Cornell University, Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University, and Juris Doctorate degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Bryan is a registered patent attorney and is licensed to practice law in Ohio and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is also a member of the Ohio State Bar Association.

Bryan’s interdisciplinary research focus within the Civil Engineering Graduate Studies Program at Ohio State was environmental engineering, with a specific concentration on biosensor technology and bioengineering with respect to water quality. Bryan completed his Master’s Thesis, “Developing and Testing an ELISA Biosensor for Measuring UV-Induced Viral Genome and Protein Damage,” in July 2020. The thesis research focused on developing and testing a biosensor which incorporates enzyme-linked antibodies into a biological assay to determine the effect of various ultraviolet light sources/wavelengths on the coat proteins and genetic material of waterborne viruses. The research also involved a comparison of the developed biosensor to other existing biosensor formats for detecting waterborne pathogens. The project was presented at the 2019 AWWA Water Quality Technology Conference. Bryan’s coursework for the M.S. degree focused on molecular biology, environmental, civil and biological engineering, and environmental chemistry. At Cornell, Bryan performed research in the areas of hydrology, atmospheric science (lidar sensing), biogeochemistry, geographic information systems, and geomorphology as part of the Rawlings Cornell Presidential Research Scholars and Cornell EES Hawaii programs.

In law school, Bryan was an active member of the OSU Moritz Intellectual Property Law Society and a staff editor for the Ohio State Technology Law Journal, which Bryan won the outstanding editor award for, which is awarded each semester to the top two staff editors for the journal. He worked as a law clerk with Standley Law Group throughout law school, where he gained experience assisting in matters related to patent prosecution and patent and trademark litigation.
